Peer-to-peer resale marketplace Mercari has opened its U.S. platform to sellers from Japan and also has opened its first-ever physical store, on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles.
The Mercari on Melrose store offers an engaging resale and community experience where shoppers can discover a variety of unique fashion items available on Mercari.com, including a curated collection of products from Japan that will be on display throughout the month of August. The store also includes a space for sellers to list items for sale on Mercari, a dedicated space for DIY classes and events and a partner pop-up area.
“We’re excited to provide a place for people to experience the magic of Mercari in person,” said John Lagerling, CEO of Mercari U.S. in a statement. “Our new store on Melrose brings to life what millions of customers love about our marketplace. Our goal is to offer a look at the diverse selection of fashion finds available on Mercari and inspire ideas for what’s possible with resale, all through an immersive storefront with friendly and welcoming service.”
Mercari Links U.S. Marketplace to its Home Market — Japan
Mercari was founded in Japan in 2013 and launched in the U.S. one year later. Today, the marketplace connects millions of people across the U.S. shopping and selling new and preloved items. Now, U.S. shoppers also will have access to items from sellers in Japan.

Mercari x Japan opens up direct access to inventory from millions of sellers on the company’s Japanese marketplace. U.S. shoppers can now explore Mercari x Japan for an expansive selection of rare and hard-to-find items, including women’s and men’s fashion, an expanded sneaker selection, women’s handbags, toys, Japanese collectibles, nostalgic action figures and electronics.
“This launch is the first time we are connecting our U.S. and Japanese marketplaces, enabling U.S. shoppers to purchase items from millions of sellers in Japan,” said Lagerling. “When we thought about the future of resale, cross-border shopping was a natural next step in Mercari’s evolution as a truly seamless global marketplace. Interest in Japanese fashion, toys and collectibles has been steadily increasing in recent years and the strength of the U.S. dollar makes it a great time for our customers to be able to buy directly from Japan.”
U.S. shoppers will be able to browse items, ask questions and complete their purchases from Mercari x Japan in English, and Mercari has partnered with The Beenos Group to simplify the international shipping process. All items purchased from Japan will first be sent to The Beenos Group where they will be inspected, prepared for international shipment and delivered straight to the buyer, approximately two weeks from the seller’s shipping date.
