Macy’s, Inc. has appointed Michael Krans as VP of Macy’s Media Network, where he will oversee the company’s in-house media business dedicated to connecting advertising partners with Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s customers.
Krans, who will report to Chief Customer and Digital Officer Max Magni, joins Macy’s following his most recent role leading the fashion team at Walmart’s media division, Walmart Connect. Krans previously worked at major publishers including Hearst and Condé Nast overseeing a host of revenue growth, advertising and marketing initiatives with an emphasis on retail, home, beauty and fashion campaigns.
“We’re excited to welcome Michael to Macy’s, Inc.,” said Magni in a statement. “He takes the reins of our growing retail media network, bringing with him more than two decades of sales and marketing experience.”
Macy’s media network hit the market in 2020 and quickly generated $105 million in revenue in 2021. Then in late 2022, Macy’s followed the path of other major retailers with media networks (including Walmart and Target) in adding a third-party marketplace to the Macy’s website. By increasing the site’s product assortment with the low-inventory, low-risk marketplace model, retail media network operators are typically able to quickly ramp up the amount of traffic on their sites, making their media offering that much more appealing to advertisers.
