Kohl’s Goes Chainwide With Amazon Returns

Kohl’s has expanded its Amazon Return kiosks to its 1,100+ locations nationwide. The service lets shoppers bring eligible Amazon items to Kohl’s stores to have them returned for free, with no need for a box or label.

The retailers launched the program in 2017, and rolled it out to 100 stores in the Los Angeles, Chicago and Milwaukee markets by early 2019. The pilot program proved beneficial for Kohl’s: Chicago regional sales: transactions and customer growth all outpaced the same metrics nationwide in 2018, with new customers up 9% compared to 1% elsewhere, according to Earnest Research.

“The nationwide rollout of the Amazon Returns program is our single biggest initiative of the year,” said Michelle Gass, CEO of Kohl’s in a statement. “Our top strategic priority is driving traffic, and this transformational program does just that. It drives customers into our stores, and we are expecting millions to benefit from this service.”

Kohl’s also has partnered with other companies to draw shoppers into its stores: Planet Fitness is leasing space to open 10 gyms inside stores, while Aldi is testing a grocery store-within-a-store concept at the retailer.
