Nearly 1,800 Albertsons Companies stores are joining the Grubhub Marketplace for delivery, including the Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s, Acme and Tom Thumb banners. The deal marks Grubhub’s first national grocery deal following its partnership with Mercato, a marketplace for independent grocers.
Albertsons Cos. customers will now be able to schedule delivery of their grocery orders through the Grubhub app and website and via the Grubhub+ loyalty program, which provides unlimited free delivery on eligible orders.
“At Albertsons Cos. we are committed to providing customers with convenience, choice and variety,” said Amber Kappa, VP of Business Development and Digital Innovation at Albertsons Cos. in a statement. “With our latest collaboration with Grubhub, shoppers can receive fresh produce, household essentials and regional favorites directly from our stores to their homes with a simple tap on Grubhub.”
Like many other delivery services, Grubhub has been expanding beyond restaurant deliveries for several years:

- Earlier this month, Starbucks rolled out delivery via Grubhub in three states, with plans to expand nationwide by August 2024;
- In February 2024, CVS Pharmacy began working with Grubhub for deliveries from its 6,000+ stores; and
- Grubhub partnered with Rite Aid for deliveries from its then 2,000 stores in November 2022.
Grubhub also announced an integration with Amazon in May 2024 that allows Amazon customers to order from restaurants directly from the retailer’s app and website without needing to switch over to Grubhub.
