Alimentation Couche-Tard Promotes COO to Top Spot

Convenience store retailer Alimentation Couche-Tard will promote current COO Alex Miller to CEO and President, effective Sept. 6, 2024. Miller will replace Brian Hannasch, who will retire from these positions but remain as a special advisor to Miller and Alex Bouchard, Founder and Executive Chairman of the board. The company operates more than 16,700 stores in 31 countries under banners including Couche-Tard and Circle K

“Couche-Tard has only had two CEOs during its almost 45-year history, and we take this appointment extremely seriously,” said Bouchard in a statement. “The board and I have been planning for an orderly and seamless succession for several years, and we have carefully assessed the process and possible candidates. It is important to us that our next CEO comes from within the business and fully embraces our values, culture and growth-oriented mindset.”

Miller has more than 25 years’ experience in the retail fuel and c-store industry. He has been with Couche-Tard for nearly 13 years, holding roles including SVP, Commercial Optimization and EVP, North America Operations before being named COO.
